No crisis at Ardingly (June 16, 2010) It took New Zealand just over 26 years to record their
first test match success. Gareth Bale played 25 times for Tottenham
without first tasting victory. British tennis player Rober Dee recently
lost 54 straight sets matches in a row on the international circuit.
The Headliners record against Ardingly is therefore relatively decent -
but yesterday's four wicket win at the Ardingly ground was a welcome
change of fortune against our opponents.
Fielding first the
Liners' openers Mishka and Neil bowled a tight line and kept Ardingly
restricted in the early overs. Wickets fell steadily with both grabbing
two each, before the Dentist extracted a little extra pace to take an
excellent 4-21 from his 9 overs. At times Ben bowled with real menace
whilst maintaining good control. Ian and Stan ably supported from the
other end, and Ardingly were dismissed for 128 with tea being taken 1/2
hour early.
Credit to all the fielders for enthusiastic support
of the bowlers with Fitzy taking 3 catches, Ben with 2 and catch of the
day was Nick with a 20 yard run and dive on the boundary rope.
In
reply there were solid contributions throughout the order, but there
was only really one star of the show. Making his debut innings for the
Liners, Kev Collins produced a destructive innings of 67 not out to
power us to the winning post. Producing some of the hardest hitting
ever seen by a Liner, victory was sealed with a lusty blow for 6 with
almost 20 overs remaining.
Overall it was a fantastic team effort
and was sweet revenge for those of us who have suffered at the hands of
Ardingly for many seasons. Cricket (and also the Headliners) was the
winner.
